Terms & Conditions
The rules for using this site, in plain language: what you may do with our guides without asking, what needs a short email first, and where our responsibility ends.
Effective September 18, 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Buddy Magazine, the publisher of Buddymagazine.org. They cover every page on this site, the newsletter and any message you send us through it.
Accepting these terms
By opening any page here, subscribing to the newsletter or writing to us, you agree to these terms. If part of them does not work for you, stop using the site.
Two other documents form part of this agreement: our privacy policy, covering the data the site collects, and our medical disclaimer, which sets the limits on what we publish. Where a conflict appears, the medical disclaimer wins on health questions and the privacy policy wins on data questions.
Who may use this site
The site is written for adults. You may use it if you are 18 or older, or if you are at least 13 and a parent or guardian has accepted these terms for you and supervises your use. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you give us an email address, it should be one you control.
What you may do
This magazine exists to be read and passed along, so the permissions come first. For personal, educational and non-commercial use you have a limited, revocable, non-exclusive license to do all of the following without asking us:
- Quote us. Up to roughly 150 words from any single guide, with Buddymagazine.org named and a link back to the page you took it from.
- Link to anything. Any page, including a section anchor such as our food labels guide, in any context and with any accurate anchor text. Links never need permission, and we will not ask you to take one down.
- Print or save a copy. For yourself, your household, or one client or patient in front of you, on paper or as a PDF.
- Teach with it. Teachers, dietitians, nurses, coaches and community groups may print our nutrition guides for a class, workshop or waiting room, unaltered and with the credit line intact.
- Pass the link on. Post it, email it, put it in a group chat, a staff newsletter or a patient handout.
Two conditions apply to all of that. Do not change the meaning of what we wrote or cut the wording that qualifies it, and do not present an extract as advice for a named individual.
Search engines are welcome to crawl and index the site, and our robots.txt file says so.
Anything past that list is usually still a yes, it just needs a short email first. Republishing a full guide, translating one, using our charts in a paid course, a book or an app, or building a dataset from our pages: write to hello@buddymagazineorg.com or use the contact page. Name the guide and say where it will appear, and we will answer in writing.
Intellectual property
All text, headlines, illustrations, charts, photographs, page design and code here are owned by us or used with permission, and protected by copyright. The Buddy Magazine name, the Buddymagazine.org wordmark and our logo are our trademarks.
Nothing here transfers ownership to you, and rights not expressly granted are reserved. Where we cite research or government guidance, the rights in that source stay with its owner, and we credit it as our editorial policy requires. A public-domain federal source such as the MyPlate material we cite carries its own reuse terms, not ours.
Prohibited uses
You agree not to do any of the following, yourself or through anyone acting for you:
- Bulk copying or republication. Reproducing whole guides, or substantial parts of them, on another site, app, feed or printed product.
- Translating or adapting. Publishing a translated, condensed or rewritten version of a guide without written permission. Nutrition wording carries hedges that survive translation badly, which is why we ask.
- Automated collection. Scraping, crawling beyond ordinary search-engine indexing, harvesting email addresses, or running bots against the site.
- Training machine-learning systems. Using our content to train, fine-tune, benchmark or evaluate any artificial intelligence model without written permission.
- Presenting our material as medical advice. Passing anything we publish off as a diagnosis, a treatment plan, a personalized recommendation, or an endorsement of a product, supplement or clinic.
- Security testing and interference. Vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, denial-of-service attempts, uploading malware, or reaching for non-public parts of the site.
- Misusing our brand. Framing our pages inside your own, removing credit lines, or using our name or logo to imply a partnership, sponsorship or review that does not exist.
- Unlawful or abusive use. Anything that breaks the law or is used to harass, defraud or mislead.
Topic suggestions, feedback and other submissions
We like hearing from readers, and our editorial policy invites corrections and story ideas. When you send a suggestion or a comment, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable license to use, adapt and publish it, without payment or credit unless we agree otherwise in writing.
You confirm that what you send is yours to send. Keep it general: no confidential material, no personal health information, no lab results. We may edit, publish, decline or delete anything we receive, and we do not return or store unsolicited drafts.
Links to other sites and third-party services
Our guides cite outside sources and link to third parties such as health agencies and research databases, including the World Health Organization and PubMed. Those links are for reference, not endorsements. Once you follow one, that site's own terms and privacy practices apply, and we do not control its content, its accuracy or how long it stays online.
Hosting, email delivery and traffic measurement come from third parties. Their terms govern the parts they supply, and we cannot guarantee their uptime.
Newsletter terms
Subscribing is optional and free. Unsubscribe at any moment using the link at the foot of every email, or by writing to hello@buddymagazineorg.com. We never rent, sell or trade the subscriber list. We may change the schedule, pause the newsletter or close it, and we will say so in a final email rather than letting it go quiet.
Disclaimer of warranties, including health information
We publish general nutrition education. It is not medical or dietetic advice, it cannot account for your history, medications or lab results, and it is never a substitute for a physician or registered dietitian. For individual advice, see one: the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics lists credentialed practitioners by ZIP code and specialty. Our full medical disclaimer applies to every page here.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the site and everything on it are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or uninterrupted availability. Nutrition science moves, and a guide that was current when published may be overtaken by later evidence from bodies such as the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements. If you find a page that has fallen behind the evidence, tell us and we will check it.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither we nor our contributors or service providers are liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or reliance on anything published here. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability for all claims connected with the site is limited to 100 US dollars.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Buddy Magazine, its owners, editors and contributors against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your infringement of another person's rights.
Termination
We may suspend or withdraw access at any time without notice, particularly where these terms have been broken. You may end this agreement whenever you like by leaving the site and unsubscribing. The sections on intellectual property, prohibited uses, submissions, disclaimers, liability, indemnification and governing law survive termination.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms as the site changes or the law does. A revised version takes effect when it is posted, and the date at the top of this page tells you when that was. Material changes, such as a new limit on reuse, get a note on the site and a line in the newsletter rather than a silent edit. Reading on after a change means you accept it.
Governing law and disputes
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law applicable atBuddy Magazine's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and claims may be brought in the courts that have jurisdiction there. Mandatory consumer protections where you live are unaffected by this clause.
Before anything formal begins, please write to us at hello@buddymagazineorg.com and give us 30 days to reply. Most misunderstandings, from a permission question to a credit line we got wrong, settle in one email.
Severability and the rest of the agreement
If any provision is held unenforceable, it is narrowed to the smallest extent needed and the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. These terms, with the privacy policy and the medical disclaimer, are the whole agreement between us about this site, and you may not transfer your rights under them to anyone else.
How to contact us
Questions about these terms, permission requests, copyright notices and takedown requests go to hello@buddymagazineorg.com or the contact page. Tell us which page you are writing about and what you need. For a copyright complaint, include the URL on our site, the work you say it copies, and a way to reach you.
